The project attracts interest from a variety of sources and requests are received to provide articles for publication giving further details of particular memorials or our activities or to assist with a particular problem. A selected list of such articles or details of assistance are set out below.
An item appeared in the THE CORNISHMAN newspaper on 24th July 2003 (a similar item appeared in “The Scillonian” magazine, Summer 2003, No. 257, page 70) concerning the Isles of Scilly survey -Click here to see the item.
The winter issue (2003/4) of the magazine CORNISH WORLD appeared with the usual thought provoking items on Cornish culture including a history of the Gorsedd, an explanation of the Cornish Centre in Redruth, the future of South Crofty and John Angarrack discusses the campaign for Cornish recognition. There is much else including a two page item entitled ‘Standing Tall - The RICHARD LANDER Monument, Truro’ - written by me but do not let that stop you enjoying the rest of the magazine ! Click here to read my item.
An article appeared in a Czech Magazine called Moravskotrebovske Vlastivedne Listy. Volume 14/2003. This neat publication is produced by the Mestske Museum in the town of Moravska Trebova, in the Czech Republic. The Director of the museum Dr. Jana Martinkova and a leading researcher Jiri Osanec contacted me inquiring about two memorials located on the Isles of Scilly and which referred to a leading citizen and benefactor of their town. I undertook some research work and the result was a six page article accompanied by seven illustrations and a map. The museum kindly arranged for the translation of the article into the Czech language ! I am particularly pleased that the project is proving of value to a wide spectrum of researchers.
Some burial grounds and the headstones are at risk and whenever possible CIP are keen to preserve these through detailed surveys. An item appeared in the West Briton which shows how we managed to make a unique survey of the Garden of Rest in the parish of St Agnes. Click here to see the item.
Treleigh Parochial Church Council had a problem in connection with certain burial plots in the parish churchyard. We were delighted to help out. Click to see letter.
