Language - Mizpah
|
The word 'Mizpah' is sometimes found on memorials, for instance, on the Isles of scilly the monument to Francis Watts, 1923. Ref. 1/692. It is an Hebrew word meaning "Wherever you are, may good fortune be with you", it is often associated with Genesis 31.49 - "May the Lord keep watch over you and me, while we are apart". The word was also the subject of post cards, this picture is from a card sent to Mrs Glasson Cowls of Porthleven.
